MANAGING EDITOR

We are currently looking for a Managing Editor in Warsaw. As such, you will be part of our global Publishing Services team that is responsible for the development of content from final manuscript to handover to Production and sign-off for digital products. Working in collaboration with cross-functional teams, Managing Editors implement best practices, workflows, tools and templates to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the publishing process. Our team is also involved in series development and post-publication maintenance and is critical to the success of our projects.

As a Managing Editor, your responsibilities will include:

·       Managing the Publishing Services workflow of an agreed number of print and digital components from approved manuscript through to handover to Production or Digital go live

·       Managing the preparation of manuscripts, design, media and digital assets in collaboration with Media Producers, Managing Designers, Digital and Web Producers for production, as required

·       Participating in copy-editing and proofreading stages as required, including checking, editing and finalizing image and permissions briefs and audio scripts

·       Coordinating proof circulation and digital releases, collating multiple sets of feedback and working with Publishing team to capture resolution to queries

·       Ensuring that all tasks are completed to brief, taking responsibility to alert the project team to issues and risks as appropriate

·       Working with the Project Manager, Senior Managing Editor and Publishing to manage detailed schedules for an agreed number of print and digital components of a project or projects

·       Being responsible for monitoring and tracking Publishing Services supplier costs for an agreed number of print and digital components

·       Attending photo shoots, image selection meetings, video recordings and audio recordings, as required

·       Engaging, briefing and pro-actively managing Publishing Services suppliers, as required, and according to the needs of the project (including reviews of work for quality control purposes)

·       Completing all necessary documentation associated with contracting suppliers, including two-way feedback on quality of work

·       Ensuring the Publishing Services data on company systems is accurate and up-to-date and all required documents are uploaded in a timely fashion

·       Ensuring that, where available, best practice guidelines are followed and make suggestions for improvement, where necessary

 

Required experience/skills:

·       Proficient level of written and spoken English

·       Working knowledge of Polish is desirable, but not essential

·       Educated to degree level or equivalent combination of education and experience

·       Experience in publishing (ELT setting an advantage)

·       Knowledge of publishing processes for print and digital

·       A recognised ELT/EFL qualification and/or teaching experience would be an advantage

·       Strong organisational and editorial skills (copyediting and proofreading)

·       The ability to manage a varied and demanding workload

·       Strong communication and negotiation skills

·       The ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team

·       A positive attitude and commitment to the aims of the department

·       Competent with all main office applications
