The IPN Publishing House at the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) – Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation is seeking English Publications Editor to join the newly established Section of Foreign Publications.
Your responsibilities
You linguistically copy–edit/ proofread English academic publications, including conforming footnotes and bibliography to the editorial standard for foreign publications adopted by the IPN Publishing House.
You review and accept English texts translated by freelance translators or external translation houses, making sure these texts adhere to the editorial standard for foreign publications adopted by the IPN Publishing House.
You co–ordinate editorial tasks pertaining to English publications under your supervision – up until the start of printing process.
Monitor editorial processes related to English publications under your supervision, updating about progress, escalating if needed. This task may include preparing formal progress reports.
You propose improvements in editorial process, pro-actively addressing challenges, suggesting alternatives, if needed.
Our requirements
You communicate fluently in English and Polish in the professional environment.
You have solid professional experience copy-editing/ proofreading English and Polish academic publications, especially in the field of history (including archival science, political sciences, law and institutions). You work with texts submitted in various formats, including PDF, and correctly mark necessary adjustments.
You have solid professional experience copy-editing/ proofreading English texts delivered by non-native English writers.
You are skilled in various editorial standards applied in the humanities, have practical knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style 16 & 17.
You understand the entire book publishing workflow, including production planning and copyrights management, as well as typesetting and blueline check.
You can work independently and in a team. You work with academia, academic editors, copy editors, proof–readers, graphic designers, type–setters, administrative co–ordinators who make sure that copyrights are secured and Purchase Orders are raised and accepted.
You are able to work with sensitive or disturbing content, including texts and photographs showing historical facts and occurences of war, war crimes, crimes against humankind, acts of violence, hateful announcements and documents, activities of dictatorships and its bodies, as well as concerning sensitive communities and personal data.
You are educated to a degree level. Ideally, you have English Studies/ American Studies/ Applied Linguistics diploma.
You have an eagle-eye for detail, feel comfortable working with ambiguity, are very well organized and easily adapt to changes.
You demonstrate very good practical knowledge of MS Office and Adobe Reader DC.
We welcome candidates who are interested in the history of Poland, Central and Eastern Europe, and the former Eastern Bloc, and focus on the period of 1917-1989/ 90.
The successful candidate will be selected based on the analysis of incoming applications, the analysis of recruitment task, as well as the in-person interview. Please note the interview will be conducted in Polish and English.

The recipients of personal data can be entities authorised based on the existing regulations and entities authorised by the Administrator. Your personal data shall be processed till the end of the recruitment process pertaining to the position you applied for or till the withdrawal of your consent. After the indicated time has expired, the personal data shall be permanently deleted. You have the right to access your personal data, to receive their copy, to rectify them, to delete them, to restrict their processing, to object to their processing, to transfer them.
You have the right to file a complaint to the President of the Personal Data Protection Office, if you decide that the processing of your personal data breaches the GDPR regulations. You have the right to withdraw your consent for the processing of personal data. The withdrawal of your consent shall not impact the legal compliance of the processing executed before your consent withdrawal.
The submission of your personal data is voluntary, though not submitting the personal data defined in Art 221 of Labour Code shall render the participation in the recruitment proceedings impossible.
